My inspiration for this piece cam from hans Hoffman's "Landscape" painting, A modern abstract oil panting depicting fields, rolling hills, along with farmland and houses. I really like the way that Hoffman used triangles and sharp angles in his painting, which led me to create a prism with similar aspects.
This is a modern piece by Hans Hofmann in 1942. It is an oil painting of a Landscape on a 30 x 35 inch board. My inspiration for this piece is my love and curiosity for crazy art. I’m a big fan of modern contemporary art and architecture. I like the idea of creating something simple, but also complicated and extraordinary at the same time.
My original sgraffito idea was creating a small tray with handles, and incorporating a design into the clay, along with a small, matching box. Unfortunately, my tray dried out more than I intended it too, and started to fall apart. I was still able to create the work with the box. I chose to add different designs on each side of the box. I started by adding 2 parallel lines on each side, and creating a different design between them on each side. I feel that making this box bigger would've been a better idea, considering the clay will shrink slightly. Other than the sizing, I think that I did a fairly good job creating the piece.
For my animal project, I wanted to design a dragon head. For the texture, I plan to add a rough pattern, preferably triangles, or small bumps that are aligned with each other. When thinking about the animal I wanted to create, I wanted to chose something mythical, and use that to help with my creativity. Since mythical dragons aren’t t entirely real, I felt that i could use my own imagination, and wouldn’t have to stick to a strict standard of what the animal should look like.
The theme for my pinch pots originated around nature. I wanted to move away from the traditional pot, or bowl, and use things I see in nature to create my work. For my blue piece, I took inspiration from rocks. And focused on creating edges and divots in the clay. On the grey piece, I wanted the clay to flow, and not follow any particular pattern. For my 3rd pinch pot. I started with a normal pot. and cut it at an angle. Then I used my fingers to create a spiral pattern.
I feel very comfortable with my ideas and visions. However, I think that i could have done a better job executing them. This piece is inspired by Black Panther. I wanted to create a face mask and do something fun and cool with it. Im not very good with fabrics, and I found out that you can make a face mask with paper using origami techniques. I used a piece of black drawing paper to create the mask, and then used the straps from an old mask with it. I then used black acrylic paint to create some texture, and finished the mask off with metallic grey paint.
